iPhone thinks I'm not at a familiar location and disables some features

This very frustrating issue has been discussed before, numerous people have had it (including me) and I've just spent about 3 hours trying to fix it. I'm starting a new topic rather than replying to the original topics because they are now closed and I think I've found a couple of additional solutions.

Basically the problem is that if you try to alter your iPhone's security settings but your iPhone doesn't think you are at a "familiar location" (home or work) it will suspect the phone is stolen and prevent you from doing things like updating your Touch ID or turning off Stolen Device protection. In my case, my Touch ID stopped working, I tried to add / update my fingerprint at home, the phone told me I was at an unfamiliar location so I had to authenticate my request by using Touch ID, but I couldn't because that was the very thing that wasn't working in the first place...

So after a LOT of fiddling and faffing I realised that I had two problems.

Firstly, the home address being used by Apple Maps was incorrect. Maps had got this incorrect address from the "my contacts" card in Contacts. Where Contacts had got it from I don't know, but I suspect it was entered without my knowledge by a "helper" app like Siri.

Secondly, the Apple maps location mapping for all the houses on my housing development was incorrect. This doesn't normally matter too much if you are just trying to find an address, but if you live at the address but the Maps location puts the address at a different location, or doesn't even recognise your correct home address at all, that is a problem, and it's one you can't correct for yourself, you have to ask Apple to correct it for you.

So my solutions were:

Go into Contacts and correct / delete any incorrect information in my personal contact card there. Delete any duplicate information about me.

Shut down and re-start my iPhone. This caused the incorrect home address to disappear from Maps. At the time of writing this I can't add my correct home address because Maps doesn't recognise it yet.

Send a support request to Apple asking them to update Maps with correct location mapping of the individual houses.

Disable everything to do with Siri. I never use it anyway, and if it's "helpfully" inserting incorrect information without telling, me, it's worse than useless.

Disable Stolen Device Protection because this seems to be overkill in terms of security. How likely is it, really, that someone will steal my iPhone AND know my passcode AND have one of my fingers handy to do the Touch ID with?

To be continued: once Apple have updated Maps I will have another go at adding my correct home address.

Hope this helps someone!
