4TB SSD For a Mid-2012-MacBook Pro

I used one of these, taking the"kit" option, to convert my 2012 Macbook Pro 13 to SSD:

My data transfer speeds jumped from about 70-80MB/sec with the factory HDD to 500MB/sec with the SSD. Still lovin' it and still using that Macbook Pro as a travel computer. One of the most effective Mac upgrades I've done.

OWC and Crucial seem to have the best success in Mac SSD conversions. However, if you use Crucial, avoid the older BX series and go for their newer MX series,

Some conversion notes:

— You must CLONE, not copy, the content of your current hard drive to the SSD before installing. That requres a transfer enclosure. That item is included in the OWC "kit" option.

—I used Carbon Copy Cloner for cloning; for OS 10.14 and 10.15, you need v5. For 10.15 you need v6.

—You need to have macOS 10.13 or higher AND use Disk Utility to format the SSD as APFS.

—If you this is a 13-inch model, replace the hard drive cable whenever you replace the hard drive. it is a wear item that, if worn, can cause a litany of hard-to-resolve issues. — Enable TRIMforce afte you install. Althoug OWC claims you don't need to, my OWC conversion started to slow after about three years. Enabling TRIM restored performance. Instructions

—After enabling TRIM, do a Safe Boot and let the computer "soak" in Safe Mode for about 30 minutes to make sure it does all the housekeeping needed.
