ECG no longer works on Apple Watch Series 7 & 8

My husband & I have series 7 & 8 watches. We bought them for the ECG feature. The ECG feature no longer works on either watch. I have gone through all the steps posted in an earlier post & been in contact with Apple to try all of their fixes. Nothing works & they deem it a “hardware” issue & that we would have to buy new watches to be able to have that feature working. I have read of multiple others having the same issue & this seems oddly suspicious to me.
