How do I force a reboot on an unresponsive MacBook with Launchpad stuck?

My MacBook Pro is stuck and unresponsive. The Launchpad page is on the screen and I can’t close it or get to the Apple icon menu behind it. A reboot by holding the power button and the generally know reboot keyboard options do not work. The mouse pointer moves around via Mac mouse pad but cannot select anything. The display bar above the numeric keys seems functional. I think I have tried everything to reboot or get past the Launchpad screen. I am currently trying to let the battery run down but that may take awhile. It seems partially locked or unresponsive, but not dead. Any other suggestions? THANK YOU
