Apple ID login into Apple Account via browser works, but the exact same Apple ID does not work in App Store, iCloud iTunes !

Using my Apple ID (= my email address) plus the password (both are correct!), I can login into my Apple Account via a browser.

However, App Store, iCloud (in System Preferences) and iTunes give erroro messages:

App Store and iTunes Store say: "Check the account information you entered and try again."

iCloud (in System Pref.) says: "Your Apple-ID or password was incorrect"

Why do I get these error messages although the email address and password are absolutely correct???

Thanks for telling me and for your support how to solve this very strange issue.

please, you may also email to: tho*********.net . thank you !

Best, Thomas

PS: I am using:

Mac OS 10.10.5 Yosemite booted from an external SSD drive

Firefox 78.15.0esr (64-bit)

MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2012)

I want to upgrade on the external drive to Mac OS Mojave 10.14, but App Store requires Apple ID in order to download Mojave onto my external SSD drive.

Put it just after the password. For example, if your password is abc and the code 123456, put abc123456 in the password field.

Codes are time-limited. If yours has expired, request a new one.

thank you very much WheelieNick !

i try to understand your answer, but wonder what do you mean exactly with saying "you can get a verification code from settings on one of your trusted devices."? what is my trusted device? and which settings? settings of the phone?

I receive a 6-digit code via sms when logging into the web-based apple account. but the App Store (in Yosemite) does not request a 2nd factor code.

so how to do it precisely? What do you mean with "Login with that instead of your password"?

sorry for not understanding (I am not so firm with these technologies)...

to explain my intention: i am booting from the external yosemite SSD, because i want to upgrade on that SSD from yosemite to mojave. however, if I can't login into App Store via Yosemite, would there be another way to download mojave booting in catalina (which is on the internal drive of my macbook 15) WITHOUT replacing/overwriting the catalina system? eg., can i download a mojave installer, possibly as an .dmg file from somewhere in order to install it on an empty drive or updating from yosemite to mojave on that external SSD ?

important is, that I do not want to downgrade the macbook internal catalina, i want to keep it. my intention is to install mojave on the external ssd (which currently has yosemite).

best wishes, thomas

thanks Niel, I wil try that tomorrow ! the only thing is, that the App Store does not send me a sms code request. so, do you mean i should parallely login via browser (which still works on yosemite) and then should use the browser-based sent 6-digit code immediately (within time limit) in the way you describe when login into App Store?

good night. t
