Apple Watch is Burning Me

Has anyone’s Apple Watch been burning them? I was on the phone with Apple Care for 40 minutes last night. Waited for a reply that I received today, with the conclusion from their “engineers” that I need to talk to my dermatologist.

Meanwhile I’ve been wearing the same watch on the same wrist almost everyday (except on weekends) since 2020 with zero problems. I noticed the burns on my arm right under what they explain as the “casing” starting this January. I’ve taken my watch off, washed it (different ways) and let it heal before trying it again. It has burnt (confirmed burn by a registered nurse) me at least 5 times now to the point where my arm has not healed in 12 days. I have had the same skin care routine, same body wash and soaps. I have not changed anything but I am getting zero support from Apple. The products including the watches are too expensive to keep replacing. If anyone else has had this problem or knows where I can turn to that would be great.

And seeing a dermatologist is not what I am looking for. Or cleaning the watch since I’ve already tried everything.

I’ve worn my watch for over 1,000 days and all of a sudden have gotten burnt in a 7 hour day. With. The. Same. Watch. I’ve. Been. Wearing.
Meanwhile I wear another activity tracker with the same exact materials used and am not getting burnt.

Yes that is exactly what should be done. They are experts in the field of allergic reactions and those have been seen by a small number of users. They do look like burns and have commonly been referred to as burns, but it is the dermatologist that will be able assess any skin condition. Many users just like you have been using the watch for years and have suddenly developed a reaction to it.

Contacting a dermatologist is exactly what should be done. Some people experience allergies to the materials used and they appear as red marks where contact has been made. Allergies can also change on an individual where they had not experienced a problem before. Follow their recommendations, some users simply cannot wear an Apple Watch and replacing it would not solve that problem.

Millions of people are wearing various versions of  Watches all over the world without this issue.

We've seen less than 100 people report similar issues here. I'm not sure what you expect Apple to do besides encouraging you to see a dermatologist. No one can make you do what has been suggested but your refusal to take the advice doesn't reflect poorly on Apple by any stretch of the imagination.

Only a professional can help you understand if you've developed an allergy or a sensitivity to the watch components or even to the LED lights on the underside of the watch.

I also forgot to mention I have tried wearing different bands, but the band I’ve worn (that came with my watch) the most I’ve tried wearing it tighter & looser and I still have had the same problem. I have no rash or any skin irritation anywhere except where the casing is.

I am really emphasizing that I have never had a problem with my watch (the same watch) I’ve had and have worn almost every day since Spring of 2020. Then all of a sudden this January (2025) I started getting these burns.

That’s where you are wrong kind sir. There have been more than 100 cases of people being burned by their Apple Watch. I am not the type of person to overreact or complain. But here I am because I am not getting “support” when I have clearly stated the issue with an actual Apple employee who works in their “support”.

As I stated in my other reply, I’ve worn my watch for over 1,000 days with zero problems.

I wear another activity tracker with the same materials with zero problems. I am trying to find a solution where someone with the same problem as me has found some help.

Not someone who has all the answers in the world and is a keyboard warrior over a multibillion dollar company who could help a fully paying customer who is having trouble with their product on being burnt.

I'm sorry that you misread my comment! I said that those of us who regularly volunteer support in this Watch forum have only seen about 100 users report the issue in the past few years. Maybe one or two every other week. I never said only 100 people have ever had this issue.

I've never seen anyone who reported this issue return and share a solution to their problem. I have seen users return and report that a dermatologist confirmed that they had developed an issue with a watch that they had worn previously with no issue.

I developed a problem with skin irritation from the rubbery watch bands that come with some Watches. The Apple versions and some 3rd party versions. My doctor suggested that I try a woven nylon watchband. That solved my problem.

I too have had a problem in the past with bands irritating my skin. Just never have had a problem with the casing burning me before which is why I posted this thread.

And yes, the materials listed on both of fitness trackers are the same. I shouldn’t have to be a materials sourcing expert for either company to know or understand that.

Hey Mac Jim ID,

Thanks for not being rude in your reply and relating to my post in a nice way.

I’m sorry for my first response.

I am discouraged with this problem I am having (obviously) and these other men replying aren’t understanding my frustration and just are out looking to fight (such a weird concept).

I hope you have a great day and life!

After exploring the community and reading more posts on people being burned from their Apple Watch, I now fully understand that I am not alone.

There were more than 100 people who have posted about being burnt by their watches.

Thank you to all of you who replied and were zero help in my question stated above “has anyone’s Apple Watch been burning them?”

-None of you answered my question, but provided your opinion & unsolicited advice.

If you are reading this and are having the same problem — DO NOT TAKE ADVICE from these people on this thread. As they have not had this problem.

If you have or are actively getting burnt by your Apple Watch you are not alone!

Can you try to wear another Apple Watch, which would be a way to rule out a hardware issue with your Series 3?

Yes, there have been users in theses forums, that reported similar issues, but I can't remember that one of those users ever posted, if and how their problem ever got solved.

I guess you have already tried to wear the watch on your other wrist?

Well @Burning_AppleWatch, This is the user to user thread and Apple does not look at the things people post, only the other users do. If you want to complain to Apple, go to "Feedback" on the Apple website (But know your generation of Apple watch is over 7 years old). Also, this is a community people come to for help with their Apple devices, so if you were expecting not to get recommendations about what you should do, well at that point- I don't know. Oh, yea- I would recommend listening to "these people" because they take time out of their day (And are not paid) to help over 100 people each day with their Apple devices and questions and their advice is true and helpful. And who knows, maybe these people have had a problem with their apple watch burning them and they choose to not share it and make the decision to take it straight to their doctor or dermatologist, then go to the Apple website to give feedback.
