Why are my keyboard inputs, symbols not matching on MacBook?

~New MacBook Sequoia 15.3.1

It has a Spanish/Mexican keyboard but I set the language to US English and used Migration Assistant to transfer my files from my previous Mac. Now the keyboard matches a US keyboard, but the symbols don’t correspond and I can barely type! I can’t change it in Keyboard/Input Sources, the only option it gives me is grayed out US. I would be so grateful for some help. Is there a workaround or some easy button to click that I’m missing?

So, what's the fix? Providing that may help many, for certain.

From the original post, my guess would be that they did not see the very faint + button at the very bottom of the input sources list which you need to use to add the Latin American input source. Apple's poor design here has caused problems for quite a few users.

Yes exactly, the + button was faintly at the bottom of keyboard input/edit screen and I didnt see it. I was able to add Latin American keyboard. Then I also had to make sure it was selected. You can choose to display the icon for the keyboard on the top right menu bar of the Mac screen, next to the battery symbol. When you click on that, an image of the keyboard opens. So at first it was showing the American keyboard which is what matched my actual keys. I had to select Latin American for that too, I think.

Anyway, it's do-able.

Now I just need to retrain my muscle memory of a few decades with these new keys....

Using the Keyboard for the GUI:

Seems pressing the tab key, you would have gotten to this point. Next time, maneuver your way around the GUI with the keyboard. That would highlight a few things, as you go along. My trackpad and mouse was working, and it turns out, it was disabled. The only way to get around it was to perform it that way, and then turn on the trackpad. How it got disabled is beyond me, but if fixed it.

As for searching around the GUI, press the command key and use the arrow keys, tab key, and return button.
