Ventura keyboard language problems

I think you may be confusing the OPTION key with the SHIFT key.

In the Latin American keyboard layout:

Shift-, gives <

Shift-. gives >

I don't have a mac with Catalina to test, but I will try on Big Sur sometime later; however, I'd be very surprised if it worked any different than how it does in Ventura.

You need to check what you have on the list in system settings > keyboard > input sources.

You have Latin American (or maybe Spanish) active now, but that NOT what you were using before. Are you sure you used Option to get < and >? That is what you get with Shift on the US input source. What language is your hardware keyboard supposed to be?

I have to retract my previous post. I did add the Latin American layout, and tested with the Keyboard Viewer, but it looks like I accidentally switched the layout.
