apple music and apple devices on windows - no songs

Hi all

Just upgraded from windows itunes to apple music. No Apple music subscription, only local music files stored on my windows box. Apple music works find, all the songs are there. But when I try to sync the songs to my iPhone via apple device app, none of the songs, albums, genre appears. For playlist, it found the first 4 from Apple music but nothing is synced to phones (I have tried 2 different phones). Anything I did wrong? Thanks for you help!

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 16

If you see that message that iTunes is no longer being used to manage songs that suggests you still have one or more of the newer apps installed. The message that iTunes cannot read the library may indicate that you have installed an older build but it can also occur if the preference for the library location cannot be read properly. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community for background - you might need to actively reconnect to the right .itl file by holding down shift as you launch iTunes. Or if you have installed an older build of iTunes then install the current one (12.13.5.3 at the time of posting) from this link:

I'd consider it a downgrade. Apple Music is not as powerful, flexible, or intuitive as iTunes. Many features have been omitted in the cause of making a "leaner" "modern" app. It may be fine for those that only use an Apple Music subscription but every time I've looked at it I've uninstalled it almost immediately after confirming that some aspect of iTunes really isn't supported. My advice would be to uninstall each of Apple Music/Devices/TV that you have installed and keep using iTunes until Apple really stop supporting it, and then break it.

Hmm. That looks like a splash screen for new installs of iTunes. I'm pretty sure there should be some sort of button to dismiss it. You might just try pressing enter when you see that screen. Alternatively if you sign into the iTunes Store from the account menu does that enable the Go to the iTunes Store link, and once you've been there does it show your music?
