iTunes will not recognize my iphone 12

Hi to all, I just purchased a new windows 11 laptop, I wanted to do a backup of my iphone 12 on iTunes. My iphone 12 is ios 18. I tried to connect my phone to iTunes to do the back up but I keep getting error message- OxE8000000A. I have done all the updates, phone and iTunes, checked the cable, ports work ok. iTunes will not recognize my iphone 12 for some reason. Can someone please give me some idea of what else I can do please. I have had this phone for about 12 months now without a backup, I really need to sort this out.

Hi,


The process is easier than it may seem. It depends slightly on which version of iTunes is installed, that from the Microsoft Store, or the download from apple.com. See also Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. It may help to remove any existing backup that might have been taken in case that has some kind of inconsistency which is creating this error. See also How to back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud - Apple Support. You may well be able to backup to iCloud even if you cannot back up to your computer.

Thank you so much for your help tt2, it is very much appreciated. I followed your instructions until I got to the point where I clicked on 'Have Disk', browsed to find correct driver, usbaap164.inf, which did not appear at all. I was so confident that this would work, but unfortunately no.

I looked at uninstalling iTunes but I think it is a bit above my capabilities, so much to do.! I am a senior person and I suppose there is only so much we can understand in the world of computers and their troubleshooting. Not sure where to go from here, I only know I really need to start backing up my iphone before long.
