ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR when using iPhone 15 hotspot with MacBook Air

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a strange issue when I connect my MacBook Air (running macOS Sequoia 15.3.1) to my iPhone 15’s personal hotspot (running iOS 17.x).

The hotspot connects fine, and I can open some websites without any problems. However, certain websites fail to load and show this error:

ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

This only happens when I’m using my iPhone hotspot. If I switch to regular Wi-Fi (home network or public Wi-Fi), the same sites work perfectly fine.

I’ve already tried:

  • Restarting both my iPhone and MacBook
  • Resetting network settings on the iPhone
  • Clearing browser caches (Safari and Chrome)
  • Turning off VPNs, proxies, and extensions

The issue keeps happening, so I’m wondering if this is a bug in Sequoia or iOS, or maybe some kind of compatibility issue with the hotspot’s SSL handling?

Is anyone else seeing this, or does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks for any help!
