How do I reset a second-hand iPhone with an unreachable trusted phone number?

Hi. My work gave me an unused iPhone 12 which was great because my son’s iPhone 11 is dying. The Apple ID trusted phone number for verification was also an old work number and it has been cancelled. Can an Apple Store reset the phone for us?

If the Apple ID has a Trusted phone number on the account, it is not an unused phone. Apple will not be able to reset the phone for you because it will be locked to the original owner that had set it up and entered the Apple Account into the device. Your work can submit the appropriate documentation to have the Activation Lock removed. Usually it is the original purchase receipt that is required that will show their name and serial number of the device.
