ipad pro not charging through usb c multiport adaptor

I'm using the iPad pro 11inch 4th gen, and trying to charge it through apple's USB c multiport adaptor since I also want to use hdmi output while charging.

But the ipad doesn't charge and instead shows not charging and a blue connected icon. It charges normally with the charger and the adaptor is a new one.

It's possible that the HDMI is drawing the same amount of power as the charger is sending. If it charges normally without having the HDMI cord plugged in, even if the adapter is still in, this would be my guess. Try using a bigger power adapter, like a 30W one.

I am not sure if this applies to your situation, or if it helps, but I encountered the same issue. The pass through power on the USB-C port of the Apple multiport adapter was not charging although the iPad Pro M4 was sending power to my connected audio interface connected via the USB - A port.

I remembered that I had set the battery to maximum 80% charging in the Battery option of Settings. I went into Settings and turned that off. The pass through power through the USB-C port worked normally after that, and my iPad Pro started charging again. If you have that setting enabled on yours, perhaps try turning it off and see if it makes any difference?
