I opened my purchase history and clicked on the subscription but it only gives me the option to manage my subscription or report an issue, not anything that lets me pay.

If you see a subscription in your purchase history, that means you've already paid for it (or are using a free trial). Subscriptions automatically renew at the date it shows using a payment method added to your account. It is not possible to "prepay" for subscriptions you have purchased with your Apple Account.
