Unwanted / Spam Calendar Event will not Delete

I got an email with a calendar invite from a seemingly legitimate source. the invite automatically was added to my calendar.. and I can't delete it, and found that the source did not, in fact, send it to me. How can I delete it, report it and check that my account is ok?

Are you syncing a Microsoft Account, such as Outlook or Hotmail? If so, the calendar invite was added to your Microsoft account and that is being synced to your Calendar. The easiest solution to this is to quit syncing your Microsoft Account to your Calendar and the invite will disappear. If that calendar is essential to your workflow, you would need to sign into your Microsoft Account and remove the invite from there.

Thanks Mac Jim,
my calendar is indeed synced with outlook. But the event isn’t showing in the outlook calendar at all. It came to my Gmail account to begin with.. Anything else I can try?

Are you syncing your Google Account? The first step is to determine where it is coming from and to do that, unsync each Calendar one at a time until you don't see the event. I mentioned the Outlook account first, because the Microsoft support site is flooded with the same problem. If you determine it comes from your Google Account, then make sure the setting to Automatically Add Invites is not turned on for the Google Calendar when accessing it on the web.
