Why are my iPhone 12 and wife's iPhone 8 on different iOS versions?
My iPhone 12 is on OS 18 but my wife’s iPhone 8 is on OS 16.
Why aren’t they both on the latest release?

Because an iPhone 8 has older technology in it, and is not capable of running with the newer operating systems which are more demanding of CPU speed and the amount of memory.
• If you have an iPhone 8 or X, you can update to 16.7.10
• If you have an iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), or XR through 16, you can update to 18.3.2

You're welcome. Yes, if she likes the features available in iOS 18, an upgrade to a newer phone would be the way to go.
Good luck!
Thanks. She may have to upgrade.
