Why does my iPhone 16 lock and require passcode for Face ID to work?

My I phone 16 will lock in the middle of doing tasks. It the requires. To enter passcode to unlock phone and the allow Face ID to work.

I have reloaded the Face ID recognition several times to try and make it works but it doesn’t seem to solve the problem.

That sounds like a hardware problem. Contact Apple support.

Best way:

Install the Apple Support app on your iPhone or iPad - you can contact support directly from the app, and the tech will have (with your permission) access to diagnostic data on your device
