cant share reminder list over imessage with standalone apple watch

i am trying to make a reminder list for my son so he can complete his chores and have them update on our end. he has a standalone apple watch. i try to send the list invite over imessage and it goes through fine but when he clicks it it simply just opens the reminders app. it doesnt give a prompt to accept or anything like that. it simply is a button that opens reminders.

can someone help us?
