Sub files show up on the documents screen when they were once in folders. How can I move back to the folders? Having sub files on the documents screen makes for too many items on the documents screen.

You may have changed the View of the Finder window from List to Columns. You can change it back by selecting the appropriate option in the window’s tool bar.
