Microphone faulty when filming on Camera app

I have an iPhone 11.

Whenever I film anything using the Camera app, the audio is really bad, like it’s inside a pocket, or something like that and it randomly sounds normal again for 2 seconds then goes back to sounding awful. I can barely hear anything in my videos. The thing is, this doesn’t happen with any other app. Filming on Instagram works perfectly fine and audio is clear, same for voice memos, phone calls etc. Someone on Reddit had the same problem for a different model and suggested to turn off “Record stereo sound” in settings, but this didn’t help me as audio still cuts off randomly during filming.

I don’t have an Apple store anywhere near me, so that’s not an option. As for restarting the phone, it has been restarted multiple times since I have this problem and it’s been the same.

I have one software update waiting but there have been multiple of those too since I’ve had this issue and none of them fixed it. Any suggestions?

iPhone 11, iOS 17

Troubleshooting Bad-Wounding iPhone Audio:

A. Provide the Reddit Post:

What is the link to this post on Reddit? Providing that would most certianly help.

B. Update your iPhone:

Why the reluctancy to install the update? iOS 18.3.2 is the latest available update. So, try updating to it. If you cannot not do so on the iPhone itself, then try using a computer. Go here: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip. If any updates are available, they will install, sure enough.

IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update.

Thank you for the reply! Here is the link to the Reddit post I saw:

Also, it’s not that I don’t want the iOS update, it’s simply that it didn’t install automatically or ask to be scheduled and I keep forgetting. I will make sure to update and backup my phone first. I hope this update will solve the problem, since other updates before didn’t. I’ve had this phone for about 3 years and have been updating it when needed, this mic problem was still there no matter what. I’m not 100% sure I had this issue from the very beginning since I didn’t film all that much or it appeared later on, but it’s been going strong for quite a while nonetheless. And others on Reddit said that updating didn’t help them either so idk. Fingers crossed though :) Thanks again!
