MacBook Pro 2017 stuck on Internet Recovery

I have MacBook Pro 2017 (with touchbar). It was updated to Seqoia, everything was working fine.

I decided to give away computer, so I tried to use erase function from computer itself, then problems with FindMy started to happen (couldn't log out or something, but it used somehow my very very old e-mail which was not active anymore with my Apple ID), I started googling and end up here.

There was a suggestion to remove computer from FindMy and erase it from there so it will be unsigned from my account, so I logged in into FindMy on my other M1 MacBook Pro and chose to "erase" as was suggested.

MacBook Pro 2017 started to erase, restarted and booted into internet recovery (where I need to provide network)

I tried various networks, hot-spot's etc. It always fails with one of codes:

  • -2003F
  • -2005F
  • -2100F

I wanted to reinstall it with bootable USB (holding Option key), but it is never presented.

Whenever I turn computer off (holding power button), after few seconds it turns itself on, closing lid doesn't help.

I can't reset NVRAM, no key combinations does anything, it just boots into Internet Recovery where it asks for network. And fails every time.

Any suggestions?

Update!

Somewhere I saw a suggestion to try RJ45 connection instead of WiFi. I had Lenovo USB-C -> RJ45 dongle and quite old Satechi USB-C -> USB-hub + RJ45 dongle.

With Lenovo still asked to connect to WiFi, but with Satechi hub and RJ45 connected directly to router - internet recovery went fine, I was presented with recovery options, reinstalled MacOs Sequoia, everything works perfectly. Now even key combinations work as expected during boot.

So if anyone has problems with Internet Recovery, try RJ45 connection. And different dongles, if one doesn't work and still asks to select WiFi.

Thanks Grant!

Erasing your Mac remotely was a STRONG step in the WRONG direction. Now it is responding as if it has been stolen, and won't do anything for anybody until you 'get it back under your control'. You certainly can not sell it in this condition -- it is useless to anyone but you.

FIRST: you need to regain control so you can enter Recovery and re-install MacOS.

If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support (QA)

read that article very carefully, the information about how to regain control is included there.

only after the computer Is under your control again, can you prepare it for sale.

.

Only then can you unwind your connection to the computer by faithfully follow the directions in the guide entitled:

"What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac"

that last paragraph attempts to explain how you reagin control, but is not at all obvious because it is trying NOT to be helpful to thieves.

if that is not enough help, then yes, you will need an authorized service provider to help you.

If you have a copy of your original receipt, with serial number, You are not a thief, then they can do much more for you
