tags added to apple notes not recognised via share option

just figuring out how to use tags for apple notes and I'd like to be able to do the following:

1. find something interesting via a range of ios apps
2. select the 'share' button in the app
3. select the Notes app icon
4. add a tag so it will appear in a particular smart folder in Notes
5. find it in said smart folder in Notes

seems simple right? the problem I have is that I type, for example '#music' + space and nothing happens, no tag seems to have been recognised. No colour change of the text I've typed. If I then open the note in Notes and delete the space and add it again, *then* I have a tag!

And if I create a note in Notes and add a tag, that works just fine as well.

So I'm thinking, either that's a bug (and I've done at least a few minutes research and can't find anyone reporting similar) or I'm overcomplicating it and there's a much better way to approach this whole thing! Or maybe both!

Any help would be appreciated. I've got a Safari tab open ready to send feedback and report the issue to Apple, but I though I should ask around first : )
