Like I’ve spent probably 15 minutes just trying to get a widget to stay in the middle of the screen but every time I do it just snaps to the side of the screen. And then ruins my app layout.

The smallest widget, which takes up the space of four apps, cannot be put in the center of the screen. You can put it in the center in terms of up and down, but not side to side. It will always be on either the left, or the right side of the screen.
