Bought my daughter a new pair of AirPods Pro 2 after her last pair were lost or stolen. Pairing with her iPhone 12 Pro was no problem but when I press "Show in Find My" they don't show up. Same thing with a brand new AirTag. Tried re-pairing, restarting phone etc. to no avail. The phone itself, her MacBook and some friend's AirPods all there but not these brand new devices.
Took a while but I found the issue. She had switched off Find My (Settings/Apple Account/Find My/Find My iPhone). Despite that, a handful of random devices (her phone, her laptop and a pair of friend's AirPods) were still showing up in the Find My app giving the impression it was working.
