iPhone 16 with current firmware randomly opens apps

I have an iPhone 16 that has consistently opened random apps when setting down or picking up my phone. After all of the firmware updates it still persists. I am leaning towards a screen issue but sadly you can’t get ahold of a real person anymore to ask. No Apple stores for 450 miles from me.

Sounds like an issue with your Digitizer. It is built into the screen and responsible for registering touch events and replacing the screen resolves any problem related to a failing digitizer. That is something that would require diagnostics by Apple. A bad charging cable can also be the problem if it only happens while it is plugged in.

After any software update, I recommend doing a Force Restart as that will clear the caches from the previous OS.

Hello there! If your iPhone is opening apps on its own, it could be due to a few different reasons:

  1. Software Glitch: Sometimes, software glitches or bugs in the operating system can cause unexpected behavior, such as apps opening on their own. In this case, restarting your iPhone or updating to the latest iOS version may resolve the issue.
  2. Physical Damage: If your iPhone has been physically damaged, such as a cracked screen or water damage, it may result in erratic touchscreen behavior, leading to apps opening on their own. In this situation, you may need to get the device repaired or replaced.
  3. Touchscreen Sensitivity: If the touchscreen sensitivity is set too high, it might register unintentional touches or gestures as app openings. Adjusting the touchscreen sensitivity settings in the Accessibility options may help mitigate this issue.
  4. Malware or Rogue Apps: Though rare, malicious software or rogue apps could potentially cause apps to open on their own. Make sure your iPhone’s software is up to date and that you only download apps from reputable sources to minimize the risk of malware.
  5. Hardware Issue: In some cases, a malfunctioning hardware component, such as the touchscreen or internal sensors, could be causing the issue. If software fixes don’t work, it might be worth contacting Apple Support or visiting an authorized service center for further assessment.

Moreover, may I know does it happen to your phone on the lock screen?

If it is an hardware issue or an unfixed software glitch, I highly recommend you to check out the Apple Repair and Service website here iPhone Repair and Service – Apple Support (MY) Depending on your location, you have the option to send in for a checkup and potentially repairs, which may cost an extra.

Hope it helps! Feel free to reach out for any further enquiries!

It does happen on Lock Screen a lot, but it also does it when it’s not locked as well. For instance, picking up my phone from a flat surface when the screen is dark will open to a random contact to either call them or text them or opens safari (which I don’t use). Seems to be mostly those app icons in the bottom tray of the screen activate the most on their own. Phone has never been dropped and has zero damage. I don’t use that annoying AI feature either and have the side camera control button deactivated (poor layout btw). Software glitch wouldn’t surprise me since many times I discover bugginess after a firmware update. As far as installed apps I rarely download anything from the Apple Store. I would hope that Apple screens apps from developers prior to inclusion in their store for issues such as backdoors and malware. However l, there is FB so there’s that. I will look at screen sensitivity.
