Broken trackpad glass on MacBook Air and yellow charge light stays on

Nothing happened to my Air. It was sitting by my chair without being touched for a couple days. Since it happened my yellow charge light stays on. Does this mean the pad is continuously using battery? If so what do I do except shutting down after each use?
