My series 9 Apple Watch overheating

I bought the watch about 6 months ago and everything was working good, but as of two days ago I forgot to charge it and it went dead when I went to put it on the charger it was giving the over heating display and now the watch won’t stay on when I put it on my wrist it just keeps shutting off due to overheating.
