Sharing photos from iPhone 16 Pro to iMac with Monterrey 12.7.6

I cannot get my desktop to recognize my iPhone. It will not AirDrop not transfer photos.

Thank you

Thanks. But can you tell us enough detail to see what's going on. For instance, did you, indeed, check these things?

  • Make sure that the person you're sending to is nearby and within Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
  • Check that you and the person you're sending to have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If either of you have Personal Hotspot on, turn it off.
  • Check if the person you're sending to has their AirDrop set to receive from Contacts Only. If they do, and you're in their Contacts, they need to have your Apple ID's email address or mobile number in your contact card for AirDrop to work.
  • If you're not in their Contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to Everyone in order to receive the file.

Keep in mind that we can't see you do this.

How about the rest of the stuff in the AirDrop article?

You didn't tell us any information-- like what you expect and that actually happens for instance. You didn't say how this worked in the past, or what has changed. So the best we can do is refer you to the basics:

If you can tell us in some detail about how your experience differs, maybe we can help…

Thank you for your response. The iPhone 16 Pro is new. Previously I had an iPhone 14.

it was easy to transfer the photos via a USB cable. Because this phone is so new I attempted to use Air drop.

the iMac desktop will not respond to the Air Drop.

the iPhone recognizes the computer.

I hope this gives you enough information. If not please let me know what else is required.

thank you.

The iMac has been upgraded to Monterey 12.7.6.
