Since updating to 15.4 my messages ap and Podcast app on my mac just shut down. They don't appear to crash since I don't receive a pop up stating the app has crashed. I don't appear to be having issues with any other apps. Suggestions on how to repair or fix?

This happened to me, too, on June 6. I have an iPhone and two Macs (both using iMessage in iCloud). My iPhone was fine, but iMessage on both of my Macs was stuck and non-responsive, even after multiple force quits and SAFE mode restarts.
After reading this thread, I noticed a mention of a sticker. The last message I had received was from an old thread that included a Thanksgiving Peanuts sticker. I could delete this message on my iPhone and M2 MacBook Air without any problems, but my M1 iMac was stuck and wouldn’t let me delete the message or get iMessage stable.
What finally worked was:
After these steps, iMessage was empty but stable. I then reenabled iMessage syncing in iCloud, and iMessage synced all my messages (except the one with the sticker that caused the issue). It has remained stable since.
Same issue here on my M1 iMac. I don't know if this is helpful or not but I find it interesting Messages does not quit on its own when my computer is sleeping. I woke it up this morning after about fourteen hours and Messages was still running. It seems to only spontaneously quit while I'm doing other things on the iMac.

Also, is it just me or is anyone else's Weather app doing the exact same thing?
Same here on an M4 Pro 24GB - happens with Home, Mona (Mastodon client), and Tapestry so far. It's been happening fairly regularly, and I finally decided that there was no way I was accidentally hitting Cmd-Q this often, so I decided to search and see if it's common and found myself here.
Saaaaaame. Looks to be combine related? Messages and Craft both crash on me without notice, no crash log offered. At least this thread exists where I know I'm not alone. Thanks y'all, don't wish this upon any of us!
Glad I found this thread. I thought I was losing my mind or something was uniquely wrong with my Mac. So frustrating. I'm having the exact same behaviour. At first I thought it was Quitter as I had just started using it, but this was set to hide messages after a 10 minute delay, not quit. The behaviour also persisted even after quitting Quitter.
This is clearly a bug that hopefully can be addressed in 15.5 (or even earlier). I also submitted feedback with a link to this thread.
No joy with the 15.4.1 update, still have the same issue with messages and podcasts just shutting down. No identifiable cause. Seemed stable most of the day since updating to .1 but at sometime late this afternoon both apps closed.
unfortunately - this not the solution . once hidden or minimised - the app gets killed - sometimes 60-90 seconds, sometimes about an hour - though definitely gets silently without a warning or crashlog.
the adding to "full disk access" does not help/rectify the app closing - affects not only Apple apps. If there is affected M-Pro or higher users - please rise hand. My theory is that some watchdog in Os has decided that MBair M1 M2 is an iPad and behaves in iPad like way affecting the apps with universal code - large Ram / heavy CPU-GPU using in background is valid reason for app closing ... on iPad.
This is occurring with more frequency. Messages closes on its own every 15 minutes or so. It's surprising how many problems Sequoia has introduced. Wish I could roll back to the more stable Sonoma until Apple figures out all the problems with their Mac OS.
I'm having the same issue. It's happening with my Mac Mini M4 and my Macbook Air M4. I bought them both recently too. I also had the issue on my previous M1 Mac Mini. For me, it's been happening to the Home and Messages app.
i honestly thought i was crazy, second guessing if i had messages open. i hope it's just a bug, because i don't understand why messages closes all the time now but the maps app and notes doesn't? the app closing behavior has been becoming very inconsistent over the years
Experiencing the same issue with my MacBook Air M3. Im on the latest update as of today's date. I run a booking/talent agency and use messages all day to communicate with my team and clients. It is becoming extremely frustrating that it keeps "quitting or crashing". No error log or way to report it, just simply shuts down. Please fix the issue!!!
Same issue with MacBook air M2 and OS 15.4.1
Imessages is freezing and cannot do anything.
Of course impossible to access settings to log out log in again since it frozen.
Seems i am not alone.
Strange thing i see in notifications new messages being received. But the app itself is frozen
I forgot to note that I have signed out of Messages, Safe Booted, logged back into Messages, still goes "poof" after a few minutes to an hour. Hey Apple, this better be fixed in macOS 15.5! 15.4/4.1 are bodged updates. Sick of relaunching Messages!!!!
Me two hundred and ninety one. Mac mini M4 with 32 GB of RAM. It definitely isn't a memory pressure issue, unless memory pressure measurement is broken. It also crashes very frequently for me. I would say at least once every couple of hours.
