Calling the store is the only way to positively know. I used to manage an Apple Store and occasionally online Apple Support would send people in, telling them we had a part. Unfortunately, when they came in for an appointment a few hours later, no part. It happens.

Make the appointment first, call the store and confirm they have stock. If they don’t have stock, you’ll have an email to cancel the appointment. If they do have stock, explain the situation and tell them you have an appointment and please hold the part for you. The store won’t hold it for days, but maybe overnight.

You will need to make an appointment mentioning your model number and service to be performed. When you receive the confirmation of the appointment, you will know that the Genius Bar already has the battery in stock.

You will not be able to simply drop by the store without an appointment and have the battery replaced while you wait. Even with an appointment, you should probably plan to drop the phone off and pick it up 2-3 hours later. At least, that is my experience.

But it would not hurt to double check to make sure that the battery is in stock, so you could call the store or drop by if they are not too far away.
