iPhone/carplay connection breaks up when making phone calls.

I have a 12mini and a 2021 Buick Encore. When I connect the phone to the car and talk on the phone the audio breaks up like there is a short. It is so bad I cannot understand the other person. As far as I know the listener can hear me fine. It does the same thing when I stream audio from the phone (or use GPS) but to a lesser degree. When I connect my phone another car there is no problem. When other people connect their phones to my car there is no problem. Any way to fix this problem?
