Anyone else now starting to have major battery health problems with their iPhone 14 Pro Max.

isn’t even 3 years old and it’s down to 78% health. Not what you would expect from Apple and I am not a heavy user of the phone either.

for what you pay for a 1TB phone. This is last thing you expect.

It is normal for the Battery Health / Maximum Capacity to decline at an average rate of about 1% a month.

If your battery was defective, it would be less than 80% after 12 months.

You don't indicate how old your iPhone actually is, but let's say that it is 2 years old. After 24 months, the Maximum Capacity would be at about 76%.

If your phone is actually closer to 3 years old, and the Max Capacity is 78%, you are doing better than average, but it is also time to replace the battery.

Lithium ion batteries chemically age (reduced capacity) with time. Usage is not a requirement for chemical age. Time and heat can be bigger factors in how your battery is aging.

Troubleshooting iPhone Battery Draining:

Did this Occur After an Update?:

Give Apple Feedback:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this occurrence, if you don't report the to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this post
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

It's Time for a New Battery:

Apple recommends you get a new battery when the Battery Health reaches below 80%. Unfortunately, there is no way to determine why, nor when, the Battery Health decreased.

Where to get a New Battery:

Contact Apple, and set up a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store, or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area. Be wary as to where you get this item, ask you may get an error of an ungenuine battery. So, to avoid this continual message, it is best to have an Apple or an AASP replace the battery. So, where to get a new battery:

A. Apple Contact Info:

B. Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the battery

Lithium ion batteries are worn out in 4 to 6 years. Your light usage is not really a major factor. Part of the issue is the thin design of batteries to accommodate the design restrictions (and customer expectations) of modern cell phones.

Just Google average life of Lithium ion cell phone batteries. You’ll see science articles stating ranges from 2 to 10 years. Unfortunately, the thinner the battery, the shorter the life span. The average cellphone battery will last 3 to 5, maybe 6 years depending on other factors, as I mentioned above.
