Moving photos from Windows 8 hard drive to MacBook Sonoma 14.5

My old windows computers are gone, and I'm looking for pictures that I know were stored on the hard drives. How can I look at the file list, find the pictures and save them to anything else so I can see and use them on my MacBook?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.5

Are you saying that you have the hard drives but not the computers?

Macs can't read the NTFS format of Windows drives, so you would have to find a Windows computer, and use it to transfer pictures from that drive to another drive formatted in ExFat. ExFat isn't best for Mac, but Macs can read them, and you could transfer the pictures from the ExFat drive directly to the Mac.

You may have to get an adapter (on Amazon, for instance) to convert the SATA connection on the internal drive to USB, so that it can connect to the USB port on the Windows computer.

Or you could find someone who already has that stuff…
