How to drag icons into folders on iPad Air dock after transferring from iPad Pro?

after transferring my 2nd gen iPad Pro12.9” to iPad Air m3 I can no longer drag icons into folders on the dock. It lets me grab and drag them from Home Screen but then won’t go into a folder when it gets there. It just wants to drop it on either side of the folder. Also what is the correct way to force start this new device. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

While an App folder can indeed be added to the iPad dock, App icons cannot be dragged into an App folder that has itself been moved to the dock. Instead you must first move the target folder [at least temporarily] to a Home Screen. You should also note that you cannot drag any App or folder icons to a position to the right of the dock-divider; icons to the right are recently accessed Apps, and if enabled, the App Library.

A forced restart, should it be required, is easily accomplished; timing of button presses can initially be tricky to when learning the sequence...

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button; do not release the button until,
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

  • Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time; do not release either button until,
  • When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
