Safari not syncing bookmarks or saving website logins on iPhone 16e

Hi, I hope someone here can help me with this frustrating issue.

I have a new iPhone 16e (128 GB) running iOS 18.4.1, and Safari is not syncing my iCloud bookmarks. In fact, I can’t even create new bookmarks—they disappear after closing and reopening Safari. Also, Safari signs me out of websites every time I close and reopen the app.

Issues:

  • iCloud bookmarks don’t sync (Photos, Notes, Contacts, etc. sync fine)
  • New bookmarks aren’t saved—they disappear after closing Safari (see attached gif)
  • Website sessions aren’t preserved—I get signed out of all sites (e.g. Apple Community) after closing Safari

What I’ve tried (none of this worked):

  • Confirmed Safari is enabled in iCloud settings and same Apple ID is used
  • Restarted iPhone
  • Checked Apple’s System Status page
  • Verified stable internet connection
  • Turned Safari sync off and on again in iCloud settings
  • Updated iPhone to latest iOS version
  • Signed out of iCloud, restarted phone, and signed back in
  • Reset network settings

Any help would be greatly appreciated—I rely on Safari daily. Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Regarding the book icon—yes, I’ve checked that section, but there are no bookmarks stored there either. Any bookmarks I save during a session disappear completely after closing and reopening Safari.

As for the iCloud Safari toggle—I did confirm that Safari is enabled under iCloud settings and I’m signed in with the same Apple ID. I also tried turning Safari sync off and on again, but unfortunately, that didn’t solve the issue.

Thanks again for taking the time to help.
