Weird beeping and static sound when trying to record voice messages

When i try to record a voice message on imessage a static/beeping noise always occurs. You can hear things e.g. if i say something but the noise always occurs. I’ve tested it on voice memos and it doesn’t happen on there - same with other apps, they all have normal microphones. What microphone does imessage use and if this may not help me, can someone give advice on what to do?
