Can I change the setting on my MacbookPro Photos settings to download originals??

unlike my studio, where I have it set up to optimize photos, I have ample room on my MacBook Pro for me to download originals into the photos on the MacBook Pro. I went in and changed that setting from optimize, which it had been, to download the originals. Will it do it on its own or do I have to go in and do some sort of refreshing or something of that nature.

Hello, Victoria.

After changing the Photos > Settings > iCloud to "Download originals" Photos will no longer remove originals, that have been downloaded. But it will be dragging its feet about it and not hurry to get them all downloaded.

It will help to use the photos and force photos to download them, for example by playing them all systematically as a sequence of slideshows.

There is no indication in Photos that the download is complete. I am testing this occasionally by copying my library to an external drive. When I open the copy in Photos and the download has not been complete, I will get a warning about "incomplete items" that need removing. I am using Power photos to make the copy. PowerPhotos will show a list of incomplete items.

Edit and print work-- you could select a bunch and do Share>Print, and, as least on my phone, it loads the files before giving the print options. On a Mac, you could print to PDF, but if it also loads before giving the print dialog, then you would never need to print. My computers are all "originals," so I can't check how that works. It'd be good to know…
