I've seen 'remedies' to this problem that say if your iPhone isn't showing the option for a second alert, you are using other than the iCloud calendar. I AM using the iCloud calendar on my phone and yet there is no option for a second alert. How do I fix this or is this standard now?

You don't say, so I want to make sure, you do know that when you create an event, you will not see the option for a second alert until you have set one. You will only see a spot for a single alert. Once you select one, you should see the option to create a second one.

I wasn't sure since you didn't mention much about troubleshooting. I'm not sure of anything else you could try. Do you have multiple calendars in your calendar app? If so, maybe try turning them off by going to the bottom of the screen where it says Calendar, and turning off the switches for those turned on. Then try turning them on one at a time. I have you tried force closing the Calendar app and then opening it again? Have you checked your mail accounts to see if you have calendar turned on for any of them that might interfere?
I am well aware of that. I use the second alerts with almost all of my calendar entries, which is why this is so frustrating. After entering the first alert, there is no option displayed for a second alert.
