Face ID Not Working Properly After iOS 18.3.2 Update – Stuck with Stolen Device Protection Enabled

I’m using an iPhone 11 Pro on iOS version 18.3.2. Recently, I noticed that my Face ID suddenly stopped working properly. I didn’t have any issues before, but this started happening after I updated to the latest iOS version.


The problem is that Face ID works occasionally—sometimes it unlocks the phone successfully, but most of the time it fails. I tried resetting Face ID, but I’m blocked from doing so because Stolen Device Protection (SDP) is enabled.


Unfortunately, turning off SDP requires Face ID, which isn’t consistently working—leaving me stuck. Each time Face ID works for unlocking, I rush to try to disable SDP, but it still fails to verify when needed.


Has anyone else faced this issue?


Any suggestions on how to fix it or what steps I can take?

If Face ID is not working properly after the iOS 18.3.2 update, and you're stuck with Stolen Device Protection enabled, you'll likely need to reset Face ID and then re-enable Stolen Device Protection. This is because some actions, like resetting Face ID, require you to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID, and with Stolen Device Protection enabled, you're essentially blocked from making those changes. 


Reset Face ID:

Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, Enter your passcode, Tap "Reset Face ID", and This will disable Face ID temporarily. 


Re-enable Stolen Device Protection:

  • Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
  • Tap "Stolen Device Protection".
  • Turn Stolen Device Protection back on.
  • You may need to wait an hour to make changes to critical security settings or your Apple ID


Set up Face ID again:

  • Go back to Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
  • Tap "Set Up Face ID".
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Face ID again.
