Lost a group of photos from Watkins Glen State Park after my screen changed to image of earth from space.
I am not skilled in computer language. The more I attempt to solve a problem the worse the problem becomes.

It sounds like you are talking about two different things.
Changing your wallpaper (System Settings > Wallpaper…) or screen saver (System Settings… > Screen Saver) could have caused your system to stop displaying the group of photos from Watkins Glen State Park, but it would not have caused those photos to be deleted.
The photos would still be where you had them stored on the computer (e.g., in the Photos application, or as loose files in the Pictures folder), and if you wanted to, you could change your Wallpaper settings to display them again. So in that case, they wouldn't be lost.
