QR code scanning. I can't even download a free QR Code scanning app without being asked for payment validation. My Android camera did it automatically. Can anyone help me? (I really regret this overpriced experience)

But the iPhone camera does it automatically. Open the camera app, and point it at the QR Code without tapping the shutter button. A yellow link should then appear at the button if the screen. Do you see this happening?

There is no need to download any 3rd party app to do so. The iPhone Camera app (built in iOS) can do this for you.

To answer your question, most apps have upgrades and in app purchases available. This is why you need a payment method on file. But rest assured, you will not be charged unless you do something that requires a payment.
