Does Find My now notify others when I check their location?

Is find my now sending notifications to people when you are actively checking their location? I just received a notification that said “— is trying to find you. Open Find My to see where — is.” Is this a new feature?

Apple has not added notifications for when someone is checking another person’s location in Find My, under one exception. If someone decides to use the “Find Nearby” feature powered by Precision Finding, that will notify the other person that they are trying to find them. I believe this feature was introduced in 2023.

This seems to only be a feature with iPhone 15s? If I have a 13 and I check someone with a newer iPhone location, it will not be able to show me this precise location, correct?

Right on. The Precision Finding feature is only supported on iPhone 15 and newer because those iPhones have the Ultra Wideband Chip which powers the precision finding.
