is it possible to download an iPhone Backup from icloud to a computer?

A little while ago, I broke my iPhone 12 by dropping it in some snow. luckily I had an iCloud backup so no data was lost.

i got it replaced with a iPhone 16, which i'm super pleased with.

i've restored my data from the backup of the old phone with no problem. but since this is a new device, its a seperate device backup in my icloud.

I only have 50GB of cloud storage, and the total of both phone backups would be well over that amount.

I should note that i use my Macbook and External Drives to backup large files.

which leads me to my final question.

is it possible to download an iPhone Backup from icloud to a computer? Including every single file of the backup.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

ok i just realized the best(ish) solution for this.

if you follow all of these steps successfully, your old device's icloud backup from will be on your computer (or laptop) of choice, and your new device's backup will replace it in iCloud.

works for both mac and windows computers.

I just found out that Apple gives you the option to have Unlimited iCloud storage for Device Backups with a time limit of 21 Days.

this is meant for users who don't have enough iCloud storage to backup their device, but need to transfer their iphone data from their Old phone to a New phone.

transferring data from my old phone to my new one isn't what I'm trying to do (my goal is to get my iphone backup from iCloud to my computer).

however, this feature will work perfect perfectly fine for this.

So is this is what you need to do.

  1. go to settings>general> transfer or reset iPhone
  2. there will be a box at the top of the screen which says "prepare for a new iPhone"
  3. click "get started" and fill out the steps
  4. let your iphone backup to icloud.
  5. when it finishes, erase your iphone.
  6. after it finishes erasing, restore your iPhone to the OLD DEVICE BACKUP.
  7. If you chose the NEW backup, erase your device and start from step 1. if not continue.
  8. set up the phone up as normal & wait for all apps and data to download from the backup.
  9. this is where the path splits based on what computer you use.
  10. if you use a MAC look up "how to backup an iphone to mac"
  11. if you use WINDOWS look up "how to backup an iphone to windows"
  12. after you've backed up your old device backup to your computer of choice, erase the device again.
  13. after it finishes erasing, restore your iPhone to the NEW DEVICE BACKUP (from icloud)
  14. set up the iphone up as normal & wait for all apps and data to download from the backup.
  15. now delete BOTH iphone backups in icloud.
  16. when both backups are deleted, start a new backup on your phone.
  17. Congrats! Thats it!
  18. You have got your old iphone backup saved to your computer of choice and your new iphone backup is safely stored in iCloud.
  19. I hope this helped you! thats all!
