Testing how much power is being drawn from the Apple MagSafe power adapter can be done in a few different ways, depending on how deep you want to go. Since that Mid-2012 model uses the original MagSafe 1 connector, Apple never provided detailed per-watt charging info in macOS like it does with USB-C models — but you can still get charging data with the right tools.
Option 1: Use System Information (since a Mid-2012 MBP can run up to macOS Catalina, I'm providing you with instructions for this OS version.)
You’ll see the wattage, amperage, and voltage being reported by the charger. While it doesn't show real-time power draw like USB-C power delivery tools, it can confirm the adapter's rated specs (e.g., 60W for the standard MagSafe adapter on this model).
Option 2: Use a third-party app.
Keep in mind: because the MagSafe connection doesn’t have native support for high-resolution power telemetry like USB-C PD does, apps are limited by what the SMC (System Management Controller) exposes. You won’t get mA or W on the fly like with newer MacBooks, but you can infer health and output based on charging behavior and voltage/amperage in System Info.

If you have the skill to use a multimeter, then yes.
Otherwise, the MBP's macOS should indicate whether the computer is connected and charging or not.
Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver and enable "Show battery status in menu bar".
