PS5 can no longer connect to iPhone hotspot (started 2–3 days ago)
I'm experiencing an issue that started 2–3 days ago. My PlayStation 5 (PS5) is no longer able to maintain a stable connection to my iPhone’s personal hotspot. The connection keeps flipping between "Connected" and "Checking..." in the PS5's network settings, and the internet never becomes usable.
This issue seems isolated to the PS5 + iPhone hotspot combination:
- The PS5 connects without issues to other Wi-Fi networks.
- My iPhone hotspot works perfectly with other devices (e.g., laptops, iPads, etc.).
- The problem only occurs when the PS5 tries to connect specifically to the iPhone hotspot.
What I’ve tried so far:
- Restarted both devices multiple times
- Toggled hotspot off/on and changed the network name (SSID)
- Enabled "Maximize Compatibility" in iPhone hotspot settings (to force 2.4 GHz)
- Reset network settings on iPhone
- Cleared system cache on PS5 (via Safe Mode)
- Manually configured IP, DNS, and gateway on PS5
- Tried with and without manual DNS (e.g., 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1)
- Verified no mobile carrier restrictions on tethering
Nothing has worked so far.
My setup:
- iPhone model: iPhone 15 Pro
- iOS version: 18.4.1
- Mobile carrier: Telenor (Sweden)
Since both devices function perfectly except when used together, I suspect a recent iOS update or system change may have introduced a compatibility issue with the PS5's Wi-Fi handling.
Has anyone else encountered this recently? Any suggestions or known workarounds would be greatly appreciated. I’d also like Apple to be aware of this, in case it requires a software fix in a future iOS release.
Thanks!
