iPadOS 17.7.7 update has really caused issues to my iPad Pro

This update has really caused issues to my iPad Pro 10.5 inch. Some apps have lost all state every time they are reopened, and revert back to their initial initialisation screens. Programs like procreate show their example artworks. Some games have lost all progress, and apps like YouTube ask me to log in each time.

I have tried a full reset / restore, to no avail, but that added a new issue which now once a day I am asked to log in with my password rather than Touch ID as "I have recently changed my password". I downgraded to 17.7.6 to find the restore for the iPad does not work, so had to reinstall 17.7.7 before restoring.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you StephC74

I tried your suggestion about 4-5 hours ago, and so far it is looking positive, not had anything reset itself or boot me out yet.

I can't pretend I understand why or how it works, but it does appear to have worked for me, the morning will confirm or otherwise

"Restart iPad using the top button and either of the volume buttons. Slide to power off and then wait 30 seconds before powering on.

Toggle your iCloud settings. Settings, tap your name, icloud

Temporarily disable iCloud drive and iCloud keychain

Restart your device and then re-enable iCloud Drive and iCloud Keychain.

For the record (and before I attempt the reversion to 17.7.6) I did a full check on all my iPad apps… of the 60-ish items, about 40% are affected, including some Apple “core functions”.  Specifically:

Apple Issues:

Numbers, Keynote, Pages all display the “getting started” dialogue every time

Safari no longer displays the Bookmarks Bar

Stocks forgets credentials

(BTW, for me, Notes synch via iCloud to my iPhone is fine)

Apps not remembering credentials:

ebay (even after May 16th update)

miboxer

myBT

U (ex UKTV play)

Vimeo

Arrow Player

Klassiki

Channel 5 (interestingly, Channel 4 is fine)

BFI Player

NSI Prize Checker

Winchester City Council

NHS App

Octopus

Ookla Speedtest

Google Sheets

Brij (BJ Bridge)

ChessByPost

Other Issues:

Halifax App is mostly OK but forgets Data Privacy collection options

Ocado crashes on startup

(I can’t of course comment on issues with Apps I don’t use <g>, but the notion that *all* of these developers ignored persistent warnings about the use of some about-to-be-deprecated function seems far-fetched to me.)

I am facing the same problems. The Safari favorites bar disappeared, even though in Settings it is selected as "on". And many applications require me to log in over and over again.

I submitted a Bug Report via Apple's Product Feedback portal. I had to select 17.7.6 as the OS, 17.7.7 isn't on the dropdown menu.

Do you have any idea how to get Apples focus on our problems?

Are you aware that they have already acknowledged the problem and pulled the update so it is no longer available? With that it is simply a matter of waiting for the fix for you to update on your iPad. There has not been a timeline published as obviously it will be sent out when it is ready and that is not something that you can forecast. Apple has no incentive to delay this any further than necessary.

The real problem is they have even less incentive to expedite it. All of us affected are "second class users" with our outdated devices.

Did you see that iPad OS 17.7.8 has just been released? That kind of makes your comment irrelevant and does show that Apple has expedited the update. Let us know if the problems have been solved for you after the update as users are just now downloading it.

That was a nasty experience and I have disabled the update "auto -install" on all my Apple devices. In future, I'll wait a few days before downloading and installing.

Unless you have a specific reason for automatically (and potentially unexpectedly) installing a system software update, I suggest that you keep this option disabled.

By contrast, automatically downloading (but not automatically installing) an update is benign - and allows opportunity to rapidly install an update in controlled conditions at a time and place of your choosing.

I recommend the following combination of settings:

When you do choose to install an update, you would be well advised to first connect your iPad to its Power Adapter - and keep it connected until the update process has completed. This precaution is intended to ensure that adequate power remains available while the update installs - avoiding the possibility of a poorly performing battery failing to provide adequate power during the update process.

The update process is one of the most power-hungry processes that the battery must handle. A battery failure during the update process can result in an an unrecoverable state (i.e. a "bricked" device).

Same here.

The reason could be (what I found out after some "research"): Apps have no right to save or get access (permanently) to the iCloud.

I use BusyCal and have to enter an app specific password after quitting (?) the app. Same with GoodLinks (reopen shows always the Update text for the newest version), and another app looses the option "Synch with iCloud" (choosing it works, but only until I quit and restart the app).

I have the same issue on my Ipad Pro 10.5 after updating to 17.7.7 - constant login issues for most of the apps. Depending on the app, either you need to login each time you open an app, the app doesn't remember your progress and acts like is freshly installed or is asking you if you want to get notifications every time you open it.

I have got in touch with an Apple rep through the Apple Assistance app and after checking my device, she said it will escalate the case in order to get a resolution. Hope this will happen soon in order to be able to use the device, currently is painful to use it

Same here (iPadOS 17.7.7 / iPad Pro 2 Gen 10.5). I have reported the bug.

Unable to log into my banking app without checking cookies, then supplying account number, then supplying further verification... for an app I have been using for years on the iPad!

Other apps default to initial settings every time I exit and restart them.

No problem with iPad M1 / iPadOS 18.5.

Nothing works to fix it. After installing 17.7.7 version all applications asked me for login and configuration parameters. If close, they ask again. Configuration is lost every time. I’d a chat to support, and they told me to reinstall the entire system. I did it, but it's still the same. Let's hope Apple solve this problem soon, because the iPad is practically unusable.

I have an iPad Pro first generation and when I updated to the latest version of IOS (IOS 17.7.7), it will not keep me signed in to some of my apps. Every time I close one of them, when I open them back up I have to sign in again. This was NOT a problem before the iOS update. All of my apps are currently updated to their latest software version. Here are some of the apps I have to keep signing in to since the iOS update: PHILLIPS HUE, PRIME VIDEO, TUNEIN RADIO, YOUTUBE. In fact the YOUTUBE app randomly crashes as well as having to constantly sign in. I hope something is corrected soon.
