Missing 'Edit' option for photo formatting on iPhone

Like others the ‘edit’ option is missing when in photos. Just wanted to put my name across a photo. Googled how to do it and all answers say option photo and click edit and then format. No edit option to find format. Help. 72 year old blonde who has no tech skills

To write your name into a photo use the mark-up extension as described here:

Use Markup to add text, shapes, stickers, and more to documents on iPhone - Apple Support (BW)


The edit tools in photos do not support graphics overlays, they are meant to be used to develop the photo, to change the color or lighting, the contrast, or to crop and straighten the photo.
