Why does my iPhone 16 Pro run out of space during 32 GB to 128 GB transfer?

My wife just got a new 128gb 16 Pro. She was trying to transfer her old 32gb iPhone to it. Everything was going fine, then it said the transfer couldn't be completed because the 16 pro ran out of space. This makes no sense.

After multiple failed attempts to transfer wirelessly for few days, I finally managed to start the transfer using a cable. Everything seemed to be going fine, but eventually, the process stopped with a message saying the transfer couldn't be completed because the new iPhone ran out of space!! Photos and videos on the old phone only take up about 70GB, and yet I’m not given any option to customize what gets transferred. On top of that, there doesn’t seem to be a way to back up only selected data to an external device either, also noticed that camera roll is inclduing all photos and videos from all the apps not jsut the camera What should I do? iPhone 15 Pro Max Storage Issue Greetings, this problem has been annoying me for a while. So I thought I'd look for solutions here as I can't seem to find an answer for this specific case. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max with 256 gigs of storage. I shoot a lot of video and edit on the phone. Lately though, I keep getting storage full errors messages. Even though the phone tells me that I have 117 gigs free, I can't complete certain functions because I just don't seem to have enough storage. For example, I'll attempt to airdrop a 4 gig finished video file to my Mac mini, but it'll cancel out due to lack of space. Is there a solution for this? I'm running iOS 17.4.1 Thank you, Chris

After trying this several times, I decided to try the backup method. But iCloud said there wasn't enough space to back up her old phone. So we bought more space. But it's still saying it.
