Just to add to my previous post...

To get iTunes to factory reset my phone (this still wasn't enough... I had to then reset phone from device settings after that in order to finally sign back in to my Apple account) was a bit of a headache...

I kept being prompted by iTunes to turn off "Find My" which I could not do as this also required signing in to my Apple account on the device.

I then put my phone in recovery mode (as stated in Mythery's post) and attempted the restore and update options in iTunes. The iOS software began downloading but if it's not downloaded within 15 minutes (it didn't on my connection), the phone will automatically restart.

I found on Apple's site that "If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the Connect to computer screen, let the download finish" but the download then appeared to go way past it's file size. It kept downloading. I discovered someone else had raised this issue on reddit and it's possibly another bug.

I had to download the software manually via ipsw.me , put phone back in recovery mode, reconnect it to iTunes, cancel the restore and update options that appeared, then shift-click on the "restore" button from the phone's page in iTunes, select the ipsw file, and then iTunes finally factory reset my device.

Again, I was still unable to sign in after all this but realised thanks to Mythery that I could then proceed to erase again, this time from the device settings, and then I was able to sign in again.

I had a backup on three devices hence i didn't want to take another one but i appreciate your concern! i was able to resolve the issue once i restored it using my mac :)

Having multiple backups is simply good practice.

For critical data, it is generally recommended that you have at least three backups, using two different backup types - and one of the backups should be kept off-line.

Just spoke to support, I have an air 2 aswell, 15.8.4. Not an issue with the account itself. Tried logging into account.apple.com and iCloud.com on the iPad,

it worked there but still didn't want to lolg in via settings. They suggested to try to force update it through iTunes, I don't have the right cable on me right now to test, but will check in later tonight if it works.

Same here Iphone 6s plus iOS 15.8.4

contacted apple support via phone, She confirmed to me that the issue is being worked on by engineers at apple but she can't provide a timeline for the solution. But she Said that she will keep me updated every 2 to 3 days . she told me alot of users reported this issue to Apple so yeah we are noticed

Hopefully Apple will will fix this soon. In the meantime, this might work for you. I tried so many things and this method worked for me, although I made the mistake of removing my device from iCloud in step 2, which meant I could no longer repeat this method and upon restoring my phone again, I was back to being unable to log in again. Give this a go:

1) I went to icloud.com/find and erased phone from there.

2) After that, during inital setup on phone, I was given the option to set up by pairing to another apple device, so I chose that option.

3) I got past the Apple login, restored backup from iTunes backup and was able to download apps again.

Apple support have been good though and I hope there will be a software update soon. Please report to Apple if need be.

I have reached out Apple Support and talked to a senior advisor over the phone. She advised me to bring my device to Apple Store for further checking. Yet I believe it should be an iPadOS issue.

I have also reported the issue over Feedback - iPad - Apple. I recommend everyone should report your case in the feedback session as well.

Is there any KOL we can forward so that we can try to draw some attention from Apple? Is it legal (especially in EU) for Apple as they are kind of remotely retriciting our usage on our devices? Or they want us to buy a new one because of this?

My iPad Air 2 with 15.8.4 become useless now. I use browser for my daily work. I really look forward to the fix and I hope Apple won't forget there are still many users using their legacy devices for primary/secondary use.

FIXED for me.

I don’t think I have the exact solution… but you could try this:

Log in to account.apple.com using Safari, and also log in to iCloud.com. After completing both steps, try logging in again on iOS.

I was able to access my Apple account after doing these steps completely by chance.

The engineering team is aware it worked for me because, luckily, I did it while I was on the phone with them.

hope it works for you 🤞🏻

There is a repeatable corrupt TLS transaction between my device (iPad pro, ios 16.7.11) and the Apple ID verification server. It happens when credentials are entered as well as with "Forgot password or don't have an Apple ID" is clicked. I reported it to apple support and sent them a wireshark dissection (below). See Frame 13 "Ignored Unknown Record." I suspect they already know about it from their server logs.
