Cannot sign-in to Apple ID on iPadOS 15

hey,

I have an old iPad mini 2 that I have just reset to factory settings but now I cannot sign in anymore to my Apple ID.

I get the error “Verification failed. The action could not be completed. Please try again”

What I tried so far:

Signing in on web works so it‘s not a password issue. When I input a wrong password, the error message is different so it’s def not a passeord issue
The iPad is on a latest iPadOS available (15.4)
I tried 3 different wifi network
Signing on a different device works
I restarted the iPad
I reinstalled again the iPad from scratch (reset all content and settings)
The time & date of the device is correct
I tried waiting several days and then tried again
I tried signing in both the Settings and the App Store and get the same error
Before resetting the iPad, I was signed in and all worked

What else could I try?

Do you have other iPad/iPhone (or Mac) devices - upon which you have enabled Advanced Data Protection and/or Account Recovery features?

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > Advanced Data Protection

If you have enabled these features on any of your devices that are running iOS/iPadOS 16.2 or later, you may not be able to sign-in with your Apple credentials on devices running earlier versions.

If you disable iCloud Advanced Protection on all your devices, you will be able to sign-in on your older iPad.

Should you wish to continue use of iCloud Advanced Data Protection, you will need to first disable Find My on the older device - then fully sign-out from iCloud - before enabling Advanced Data Protection for the newer devices. You can then continue use of the older device(s) using a different AppleID.

So I reinstalled iPadOS by downloading a new ipsw and installing it via Finder and now it works. So my guess is that the entire iPadOS was corrupt

I connected the iPad to my mac and opened the console. During the login process (after I input and confirm the password), I see this log

I signed in with the same account on a newer device and the Advanced Device Protection is disabled. I tried with different apple accounts and the error is the same

I'm delighted to learn that you have managed to work-through - and resolve - the problem. Sometimes, to fix an issue, it is necessary to restore the iPad to factory settings.
